“A noble melancholy”
ReviewRead the article →Jean-Paul’s recital at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad received praise from the newspaper Le Monde, in an article written by Marie-Aude Roux: “At 29, the young man is now evidently a master. His keyboard playing is direct and natural, his virtuosity unpretentious, imbued with a noble melancholy that is free of tears, allowing him to dive sensitively into troubled waters and reach incandescence at the breaking point.”
Diapason d'or
AwardDiscover the album →A Diapason d'Or has been awarded to Jean-Paul's latest album, Origins, dedicated to Armenian music (naïve), which includes works by Komitas, Aram Khachaturian, Arno Babadjanian, as well as two pieces by his father Gérard Gasparian inspired by the poet Sayat-Nova. “A superb and thrilling return to the roots” (Bertrand Boissard).
[BIO]

Described by Classica as “one of the most promising pianists of his generation”, Jean-Paul Gasparian pursues a career marked by awards and major stages. Diapason d’or for Origins, praised by Gramophone for his finesse and flawless technique, he imposes a playing that is both deep, personal and luminous.
Jean-Paul issued in 2024 his sixth album, the second one for naïve. Entirely dedicated to Armenian music, Origins has been awarded a Diapason d'or and received laudatory reviews (“A Musician Of Enormous Imagination” - Gramophone). In 2023, his Debussy project has been described as “a major reading” that “squares the circle of musical perfection and artistic imagination” by Belgian Crescendo Magazine, which selected it among the twelve best classical recordings of the year. His previous albums, devoted to Rachmaninoff and Chopin, have been enthusiastically welcomed by the international press (”A New Masterstroke” - Le Figaro, ”A Highly Accomplished Chopinist” - BBC Music Magazine).

“Gasparian's manual bravura, his sense of the grand line and of Rachmaninov's nobility and passion lend the all-round perfect performance an aura of mystery, so that one is reminded of the virtuosos of the generation before last, of Horowitz, Janis, Ogdon, Richter or Wild, who illuminated the darker regions of Rachmaninov's soul with similar intensity.”
